Supported retail barcode types
- UPC-A: 12 digits including the final check digit.
- UPC-E: a compressed UPC form available only for eligible UPC values.
- EAN-13: 13 digits including the final check digit.
- EAN-8: 8 digits including the final check digit.
The generator does not issue a retail number
Free & Easy Barcode renders a barcode graphic from the identifier you enter. It does not allocate a GTIN, register a product, prove ownership of a number, or make an internally invented number acceptable to a retailer or marketplace.
GS1 / retail identifier warning: when a retailer, marketplace, or trading partner requires an officially assigned product identifier, obtain and use the appropriate GTIN from GS1 or the standards source required by that channel. Generating the bars is a separate step.
UPC-A versus EAN-13
UPC-A is common in North America and represents a 12-digit GTIN-12. EAN-13 represents a 13-digit GTIN-13 and is widely used internationally. Modern point-of-sale scanners often read both, but the seller, marketplace, or receiving system may specify one format.
Bulk UPC or EAN artwork
If you already have a list of assigned identifiers, use the bulk barcode generator to validate them row by row and download valid symbols as PNG or SVG ZIP files. If the identifiers are in Excel, export the relevant column as CSV first using the Excel/CSV workflow.
Printing retail barcodes
Retail barcode sizing and quiet-zone rules can be stricter than casual internal labels. Use the barcode size and printing guide, preserve proportions, test the final package or label, and follow any retailer or standards requirements that apply to your product.
